All Services Are Free and Confidential
HAVEN provides support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence throughout the Dan River Region.
You do not have to stay in shelter to receive services.
You do not have to report to law enforcement to receive assistance.
You do not have to navigate your situation alone.
Calling HAVEN does not commit you to anything.
When you call:
- A trained staff member will listen to your concerns.
- We will discuss your immediate safety needs.
- We can explain available services and resources.
- We can help you explore your options.
- We can assist with safety planning.
- We can connect you with shelter and advocacy services if needed.
You remain in control of the decisions you make.
HAVEN provides emergency shelter and support services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence.
Shelter staff are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If shelter is needed, a staff member can discuss available options and help determine the safest next steps..
If you are experiencing abuse, having a safety plan can help increase your safety.
Consider:
- Keeping important documents in a safe place
- Identifying trusted friends or family members
- Establishing a safe place to go in an emergency
- Keeping important phone numbers accessible
- Creating a plan for children and pets if applicable
A HAVEN advocate can help you create a personalized safety plan.
HAVEN advocates can assist with:
- Protective order information
- Court accompaniment
- Community resources
- Referrals to additional services
- Emotional support
- Victim advocacy
Violence affects entire families. HAVEN provides support for children who have experienced or witnessed violence, as well as assistance for parents and guardians seeking safety and stability for their families.
Families with children are encouraged to reach out for support. A HAVEN advocate can discuss available resources, shelter options, and services designed to help both caregivers and children navigate difficult situations.
Can I get help if I do not need shelter?
Yes. Shelter is not required to receive services.
Can I get help if I do not want law enforcement involved?
Yes. Receiving support from HAVEN does not require reporting to law enforcement.
Are services confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a core principle of the services provided by HAVEN.
Can family members or friends call for information?
Yes. Friends and family members can contact HAVEN to learn how best to support someone experiencing abuse.
I am not sure if what I am experiencing is abuse. Can I still call?
